This one-pot French onion pasta recipe video shows how to cook up caramelized onions, savory broth, and tender pasta, all topped with gooey, melty cheese for a rich, cozy dish—simple, delicious, and made in just one pot!
Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 large onions
- 4 garlic cloves
- ÂĽ cup sugar
- ÂĽ water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1.5 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 cups broth of choice
- 1 12 oz. can evaporated milk
- 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
- Dried oregano, paprika, pepper, sea salt, red pepper flakes to taste
- 1 pound pasta, uncooked (I use orecchiette, but also love using Cavatappi)
- 8 oz shredded Parmesan Cheese
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions:
- Slice the 3 onions into half moons
- Caramelize the onions by placing them into a hot pot along with 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 water (the water keeps the onions from burning and the sugar helps them caramelize)
- Add 4 tablespoons of butter
- Sauté for 30-40 minutes stirring frequently
- After the onions are caramelized, add 4 minced garlic cloves, 1.5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 4 cups of broth of choice, and first round of seasonings to taste (sea salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning)
- Add half of the evaporated milk to the pot
- Mix the other half of the evaporated milk with in 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch (this is used as a thickening agent) and add to the pot
- Bring to a boil and add 1 pound of pasta
- Simmer on medium for about 12-15 minutes or until al dente
- Slowly stir in 8 oz shredded Parmesan Cheese (add in ~ 3 oz at a time so it can melt and turn into a cheesy sauce)
- Add the second round of seasonings to taste
- Garnish with parsley
- Serve and enjoy!
Tips:
- If the onions are caramelizing too quickly, add a touch of water and cover the pot (to hold moisture in and prevent burning)
